Our Story

William Hammond built the first Hammond’s Store in Forsyth County Georgia around 1898. The first store was a general store and trading post. During the fall, the farmers would pay their accounts by cotton, corn, and other products grown on the farm. In 1958 the store was torn down to later build a modern country store for the times.

The second Hammond’s store was built by Artie and Tom Hammond around 1960. This store was a general store that sold groceries, sewing supplies, gas, and live bait. It unfortunately burned down in 1968.

The third Hammond’s Store was built by Thomas and Candy Hammond in 1986. The store at the time was a booming grocery store. Live bait and tackle were getting more popular as the years went on. When the area starting getting more populated bigger grocery stores started coming in. Fishing tackle and live bait was on the rise, so it was time to re-tool the business.

The fourth Hammond’s Store was built. This store was built solely to catered to the avid fisherman.

During the 18 years at this building, the tackle selection substantially. Tackle was stacked from the floor to the ceiling. Which lead to building the shop you know today as Hammond’s Fishing.
